Why standing is so great for us
Research shows that many of us are seated for more than ten hours a day, you may not think it, but this can actually have a huge impact on our health.
If you work in an office, sitting down all day will be the norm, but unfortunately just because it seems normal doesn’t mean it’s right. Sitting down for prolonged periods of time can lead to neck ache, back pain, and repetitive strain injury.
As well as prolonged sitting causing back pain, it is also associated with an increased risk of heart disease, type two diabetes and raised blood pressure.
If you spend a lot of time at your workstation, an ergonomic product that is essential is a sit-stand desk, also known as a height adjustable desk. A desk like this will enable you to raise or lower your desk so that you can be in a sitting or standing position while you work.
Research has shown that a height adjustable desk can improve employee job performance, occupational fatigue, absenteeism, anxiety and musculoskeletal disorders.
Having a desk like this also means you don’t have to interrupt your work to get up regularly to walk around the office, as with the press of a button you can simply raise your desk and voila, you are stretching your legs.
Our favourite height adjustable desks:
Aluforce Pro 140 Height Adjustable Desk – This desk is versatile and simple to operate.
Elevate Standing Desk – This desk is easy to use and can be added to any existing workstation or desk.
Varidesk Pro – This two-tier design gives you an upper display surface for your monitor, and a spacious lower keyboard and mouse deck.
Vergo is confident that you will benefit from a height adjustable desk if you feel that prolonged sitting at work is negatively affecting you. However, if you are not sure what desk would work best for you, getting a DSE workstation assessment could be worthwhile.
A DSE Assessment will identify any issues with current setups as well as any specific products that may assist on a proactive basis with regards to Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs).
