How Did VergoUK First Get Into Ergonomics?
How did VergoUK first get into ergonomics?
Managing director Simon Vaughan started VergoUK back in 2009 solely as an office furniture business. With years of experience working in the industry, we were and still are able to specify and provide our customers with the best products at affordable prices.
After providing office furniture such as chairs, desks and accessories (mice, keyboards, footrests etc) for a number of years, VergoUK spotted that there was a gap in the market. That gap was that too often, if not all of the time, furniture providers where supplying office furniture that just wasn’t suitable let alone comfortable for the end user.
Looking at aesthetics such as the design and colour of the chair was always put before whether what was provided was actually comfortable. That is what Simon wanted to change. After all, you wouldn’t sit in an uncomfortable sofa or buy an uncomfortable mattress so, why would you choose an uncomfortable office chair that you sit in for eight hours a day?
Taking this new concept forward, VergoUK decided to flip the office furniture concept on it’s head. It didn’t matter any more what colour customers wanted their chair to be so that it matched the office walls. The first question that was always asked was about the staff members and how comfortable they were. We can get most chairs in any colour so this became almost irrelevant when providing office chairs, comfort from then on always came first.
Making sure customers were comfortable from the get go soon became the way forward for us at VergoUK but, it was only the beginning. Noticing that many display screen equipment (DSE) users had been using inappropriate equipment or, were set up wrong meant that we were able to carry out assessments to ensure individuals were always set up comfortably. This is when we started providing our DSE assessments.
Carrying out assessments, we are able to get an overview of the workstation, make any adjustments and recommend suitable, comfortable equipment if necessary. When purchasing an office chair, it’s important to remember that different chairs are suitable for different people. All chairs that we provide do come with adjustments however, a chair that is suitable for a taller user wouldn’t be appropriate for someone who is shorter for example.
There are a wide variety of ergonomic chairs on the market which are designed for comfort above all else. Providing everything from mesh chairs to high back chairs and bariatric chairs to task chairs, we are able to specify which product is most suitable for you. If you do decide to go ahead with our recommendation, one of our assessors will also make a visit to get you set up correctly on your chair and show you how to use it correctly.
DSE assessments do not only look at how to make sure you are comfortable in your chair (although this is a large part of it). They also look at your screen height, the equipment you use, the environment you are in and if you have any underlying musculoskeletal conditions. Taking all of this into consideration, we are able to put forward equipment such as an ergonomic mouse, height adjustable desk, footrest and much more where necessary.
Addressing comfort before anything else when it comes to office furniture means that businesses don’t spend money on a product that simply looks nice. More often than not, we would see businesses who would fork out large costs on aesthetically pleasing office furniture, only to have to buy more chairs a year or so later because they weren’t comfortable. Taking the opposite approach means that this doesn’t happen for us at VergoUK.
As well as carrying out DSE assessments, we also provide office furniture fit outs. We can help with everything from design to installation whether you’re moving to a new office, want to refurbish your existing space or, need to upgrade your office furniture.
When fitting out offices with new equipment, we will make an on-site visit to get an idea of space and how many desks, chairs etc you will need. From here we will put forward ergonomic office seating that will be the most suitable and comfortable for your staff. This could consist of a number of mid to high back ergonomic office chairs to ensure there is an adequate level of comfort for all of your staff members from the start. We are able to work within any budget so can tailor our quote to suit you.
